Never Enough

I’ve been spending a lot of time thinking about my daughters these days. Not in these large sweeping grandiose ways about the depth of our relationship or how I came to be their mama, or how incredibly quickly the time has passed. I try not to get hung up on what they are learning from me and what they will carry with them that they learned under my roof and the cosmos that orchestrated it all to come to pass.

Life Lesson #22: Be Happy

Cate skips everywhere.  From the couch to the pantry.  From the car to the family room.  Through the aisles of Target.  And it doesn’t dawn on her to move any other way.  And there are a million ways she can move through life yet she always chooses to skip, her soft hair rising and falling…

Life Lessons 7 – 12

Most of the time, the blogs I write are snapshots in time, arrangements of words that are reflective of something I want to capture, something that I need to process outwardly in written form.  And I’ve written a lot of words in my day, so it’s hard to prioritize the ones that have meant the…

Life Lesson(s) #18: The Inconvenient Truths

I share a lot of personal details on my blog, things about how I see the world, the journey I’ve been on, how I’ve experienced it, the lessons I wish to share with my daughters, and even some of the things that have been a shadow in my past.  And even in the low times,…

Life Lesson #16: Be Nice

Stickers from JJ When Cate was recently in the hospital and word got out that she was sick and struggling, the outpouring of love and kindness was overwhelming.  A perfect stranger Paul Jones, who had never met us messaged me on FB and said he and his wife Beth wanted to send us something special….

Life Lesson #10: Flow in the Hustle

“Good things happen to those who hustle.”  – Anais Nin When Taylor trudged down the stairs this morning at 7:45 AM I’d already been awake for nearly three hours.  I was typing at my computer, black coffee and the remains of my egg white omelet next to me on a plate.  I was researching release work techniques…

Life Lesson #8: Imagine

Cate, Queen ofthe Closetlands “Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” – Howard Thurman While working on my computer yesterday, a loud “THUD” erupted from upstairs. It was the telltale sound of feet launching off…

Life Lesson #3: Learn

“Learn everything you can, anytime you can, from anyone you can – there will always come a time when you will be grateful you did.” -Sarah Caldwell I spent 18 hours this weekend at a Pilates seminar.  When I got home this afternoon my muscles were sore, my body was tired, and my mind was…

Life Lesson #2 Love

My girls and I have a ritual when I tuck them into bed.  We call it “The I love you more than…” game. As I tuck them into their beds I say, “I love you.”  They say, “I love you more!” Then I say, “More than what?” and they respond, oftentimes with silly answers like…
